Why Arizonans Support the Health & Wealth Raffle

I have participated in the Raffle for years. Just knowing what the money is being used for at St. Joseph’s Hospital is what it is all about. It is not about a prize or a trip; it is about what those dollars will do for people in a time of need. I am so grateful for having the opportunity to give yearly to this cause.

The treatment I have received from Dr. Spetzler, Barrow Neurological Institute and the staff at St. Joseph's before, during and after my surgery has been exceptional. I would like to make sure that myself and others continue to get the care and support they need, whether that be through teaching the upcoming doctors, acquiring the latest, cutting edge technology, or providing more staff to support patients. Besides there are some incredible prizes!

I have participated in the Health and Wealth Raffle for about four years. I became aware of the Raffle from an advertisement on TV. I am glad to participate in the Raffle because I know how critical good care is when a person becomes very sick. I am fortunate to have my health but if the time comes when I need medical care I want to know I can have the best out there. I have to admit I do like all the wonderful prizes available!

In 2001 my wife, Peggy, had multiple fractures in her lower back. Dr. Sonntag performed a six hour surgery to repair the damage. That surgery has changed Peggy's life. She is able to play with our children and continue on with her active life.

I have to thank Dr. Sonntag and the staff at St. Joseph's from the bottom of my heart, for all they have given to my family and most of all to my beloved wife.

In 1991, I was randomly shot on New Year's Eve at three and a half months pregnant. I was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital. I had to undergo emergency abdominal surgery. Not only were they able to save me, they also were able to save my beautiful baby girl. She is now sixteen years old and I am truly grateful for everything St. Joseph’s did for us. They are a blessing!!

Thank you for participating in the Health & Wealth Raffle. Each ticket purchased helps St. Joseph’s Hospital and Barrow Neurological Institute stay at the forefront of medical care and introduce new medical firsts to Arizona. Proceeds from the Raffle are invested in innovative medical research, education and patient care.

Last year, more than 41,000 patients were admitted to St. Joseph’s. Approximately 70,000 patients visited our emergency department and nearly 430,000 patients visited on an outpatient basis. Funding from the Raffle helped provide the specialized care and services many of these patients needed.

Together, we are making one of the nation’s finest medical institutions even better.
