Volker K.H. Sonntag, MD, was in the first class to graduate from the University of Arizona Medical School in 1971. Since he came to Barrow Neurological Institute in 1978, Dr. Sonntag has seen it grow from two operating rooms, 900 cases per year and one resident into 12 operating suites, nearly 7,000 cases per year and the largest neurosurgery residency program in the nation.
